Dear friends,Not sure if this has been shared here, but its worth noting
this; more can be read from

The Africa Knowledge Network (AKN) during the last workshop held in Nairobi
Kenya last year, built consensus on the need to change the name from AKN to
Knowledge Network of African Community Telecentres (KNACT). This was mainly
due to the fact that at a glance the name AKN did not depict any
relationship with the telecentre movement and also the need to have a name
that in itself could act as an elevator pitch.
A discussion on this had many rounds on the e-mpower mailing list in
December last year and by January many suggestions and contributions
considered the terms” Knowledge Network" and "Community Telecentres" to be
in the new name. Hence the new name becomes KNACT. The abbreviation with an
'ACT' embed on it 'action' meaning the network to be a 'network for action'.
Paul Barera the KNACT chairman may add details to this summary.
