Subject: [LearnShare HIV/AIDS] Fw: Radio FADECO loses staff in road accident on 5-1-2010

I am writing to inform you about the untimely death of Mr. Deus Protase Matogo who has been our staff, attached to STUDIO No.4 at Chato, Chato District, Kagera Region. He died yesterday following a fatal accident at 9.00 a.m. His was buried today after a requiem mass led by the parish priest of Chato catholic parish. He has died at the age 47, has survived with a widow, five children and 2 grand children.

Mr. Deus Matogo has been working with FADECO RADIO since its inception. He has been associated with FADECO for a long time. First he worked with FADECO as a community development/ capacity trainer, and was engaged in community sensitization programs: post harvest technologies, low cost housing, tree planting and afforestation efforts, ICTs, Computer training and now as a new reporter. He has been involved a radio program producer and has been one of the staff involved with the JITAMBUWE WEKA WAZI initiative to support people living with HIV and AIDS.

His death has created a vacuum in the service delivery efforts of FADCO COMMUNITY RADIO. Plans have been to further expand into CHATO and the lake islands of Ukerewe through is efforts. He has been contributing for radio content on Indigenous knowledge, life in fishing communities near L. Victoria, General news as well as acting as News reporter.

He is greatly missed by all the staff, People living with HIV and AIDS in Karagwe and all our listeners. Radio FADECO has joined thousands of mourners that have gathered for his funeral via a live broadcast of the funeral mass.

Many thanks to all our friends in COMNETA, Tanzania Tele-centre Network, Africa Knowledge Network, ALIN, UGABYTES, AMARC-AFRICA and to all our supporters and radio partners Radio Habari Maalun, BBC, Radio DW, FARM RADIO INTERNATIONAL, TBC Taifa and RNW. May his soul rest in Peace (RIP).

Joseph sekiku (Director) FADECO COMMUNITY RADIO
