All-round Development Impossible without Women Empowerment

Without women empowerment and gender equality in every tier of the state, all-round development of the country is not possible at all. That is why, we have to take proper initiative to stop torture and violence against the women community in the society.
Speakers said it in an orientation course on ‘Gender, Women Empowerment and AIDS Issue’ held in Rajshahi on Friday. Mass communication oriented knowledge center CCD arranged this orientation course with the assistance of World Association of Christian Communication (WACC). Program Officer of German Technical Organisation GTZ Dr Md Hizbullah, Professor of Social Work Department of Rajshahi University Shahana Nasreen, Executive Director of Barendra Unnayan Prochesta Foyejullah Chowdhury and CCD Director media personality G M Mourtoza conducted different sessions in the orientation.
The orientation course held at Hajji Muntajul Hoque Auditorium at Monafer Morh was arranged as a part of long term training course on radio journalism. A total of 37 delegates from Saontal, Uraon, Mahato, Malo, Munda, Dolit, Hajong, Garo and Chakma indigenous communities are taking part in this training program.
Lack in English Skill Leads the Bangladeshi Backward

Due to the lacking in English communication, the Bangladeshi people are lagging behind in all respects. At the same time they are being deprived of higher education and job opportunity in abroad.
Speakers opined it in an orientation workshop on ‘English Communication Skill’ held in Rajshahi on Saturday. Mass communication oriented knowledge centre arranged this orientation. Teacher of renowned English teaching centre Saifur’s and Youth Ambassador of CCD Monirul Morshed Manik conducted the sessions in the orientation. CCD Director and media personality G M Mourtoza facilitated the sessions.
The oirentation course arranged as a part of the long term radio journalism training program was held at Hajji Muntajul Hoque Auditorium at Monafer Morh in the city. 26 delegates from Saontal, Urao, Mahato, Malo, Munda, Dolit, Hajong, Garo and Chakma indigenous communities and 16 Bengali delegeates took part in the orientation course.
In order to enhance English skills of the students of different educational instituions of Rajshahi, CCD will organize regular training course on English Communication Skills soon. British Council will support CCD in arranging this course.
UN Climate Change Media Fellowship Awarded to G M Mourtoza
Editor of Radio Desh and Director of CCD Bangladesh G M Mourtoza has been awarded Climate Change Media Feloowship to cover Climate Change Summit of United Nations to be held in Copenhegen in Denmark in December. For the first time any journalist outside Dhaka has been awarded such an important fellowship.
This year only two journalists from Bangladesh have received this significant fellowship. One of them is News Editor of private television chhanel Bangla Vision and another is Editor of the first news based online radio Radio Desh and media personality G M Mourtoza.
Under this fellowship Media personality Mr Mourtoza will cover the story of the UN Climate Change Summit to be held in Copenhegen and also attend the Media Clinic, workshop and training sessions there. Moreover, he will cover the workshop on ‘Third Pole Project: Covering Climate Change in The Himalayas’ and South Asian regional conference on ‘Regional Climate Change Conference: Kathmandu to Copenhegen 2009’ to be held in Kathmandu in Nepal in September. He will also cover Asian conference titled ‘UNFCCC Talks’ to be held in Bangkok in Thailand in October and the congress titled ‘Bridging North-South Difference in Reporting Climate Change’ in Delhi in India. He will broadcast and publish the news stories including features and reports of these important events through Radio Desh, the Daily Amader Shomoi and the Daily Sunshine newspaper.
Notably, UN Climate Change Summit will be held in Copenhegen in Denmark in December. Prime Ministers, Environment Ministers, high level delegation, environmentalist, researchers, journalists, members of civil society and delegation from national and international NGOs from all member countries of the United Nations will participate in this summit. A total of 20 thousand delegates from different countries in the world will take part in this summit.
In order to cover the story of this summit in the media outlets of different countries in the world, Internews, Panos London and IEED are jointly implementing the Climate Change Media Partnership Program (CCMP).
Under this program, applications were invited from the journalists of the Asian, African and Latin American countries for this fellowship. More than one thousand journalists from different countries of the world applied for this fellowship. Considering the work experience and interview of the applicant journalist, only 40 of them have been awarded this prestigious fellowship. G M Mourtoza is one of these lucky journalists. Senior Reporter of the Daily Star Pinaki Roy and Onup Kumar Kastajir of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) received this fellowship respectively in 2008 and 2007.
