LUG TEDx Kampala November 23 2009

On November 23rd, 2009 the Uganda Linux User Group (LUG) will be hosting a
special event. Part LUG meeting, part technology conference, it will be
held in TEDx style with inspiring talks from technology leaders from the
Kampala area.
What is a TEDx?

At TEDx events, unique talks given by live speakers combine with TEDTalks
videos to spark deep conversation and connections. TEDx events are fully
planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis.

While the content and design of each TEDx event is unique and developed
independently, all TEDx events have several features in common.
What you'll find at every TEDx event:

   - TED's celebrated format: A suite of short, carefully prepared talks,
demonstrations and performances on a wide range of subjects to
foster learning, inspiration and wonder -- and to provoke conversations
   that matter.
   - TEDTalks videos: A minimum of two pre-recorded talks from the acclaimed
TEDTalks video series will be shown (these talks are
   available free on TED.com)
   - Bias-free programming: Lack of any commercial, religious or political
   agenda

Some other TEDx traits:

   - Speakers have strict time limits
   - Speakers cannot wear ties
   - The event's talks will be filmed

>

TED.com is one of the most trafficked video sites in the world, known
primarily for inspiring talks it's hosted by famous influential people
like (Nigerian writer) Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, (Wikipedia Founder) Jimmy
Wales, (former Microsoft CEO) Bill Gates, (former U.S. President) Bill
Clinton, (current U.K.
Prime Minister) Gordon Brown, and (Google Founders) Sergey Brin and Larry
Page. The actual TED conference as a very exclusive, prestigious
event but TEDx brings the conferences open culture to the masses.
Guests and Speakers

Unlike many other conferences you may have been to, while this event is
free, it's also very exclusive. Only those who register can attend and only
50 seats are available. Attendees will be chosen randomly through a lottery
process. This is to ensure that everyone is attending for the right reasons
and to give everyone an equal odds of being selected. So how do you get in?

1. Fill out the registration form found
here<http://events.linux.or.ug/user/register>before the deadline.
Include your full name and answer all the questions
asked. Failure to correctly fill out the form automatically removes you
from the selection lottery.

2. Show up on time. We're starting promptly at 9am on November 23rd. Anyone
who arrives after 10am will not be let in. No exceptions.

The Linux Uses Group is supporting the local technology and communications
community by organizing this event.
