[UgaBYTES] NILG organizes workshop on “Access to Information for Strengthening Union Parishads”

On 14th March, 2009 National Institute of Local Government (NILG) under the
leadership of the Local Government Division (LGD), Ministry of Local
Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives organize a workshop on
"Access to Information for Strengthening Union Parishads" at Hotel Sheraton
with support from water and Sanitation Program (WSP) of the World Bank,
Dhaka office.

The main purpose of the workshop was to initiate sharing the existing
learning and share the proposed framework for the union information centre
to dialogue with key stakeholders and reach consensus for moving forward.

The participants for the workshop ware the key stakeholders, representative
from union information centre operators, UP secretaries, UP Chairmen,
government official, developing partners and private entrepreneurs.

A team of BTN members and officials also took part in the workshop. The
participants who have represent BTN in the workshop were, Mr. Shahiduddin
Akbar, BIID; Mohammad Zakaria, GoUF; Ataur Rahman and Mahmud Hasan from BTN.

 The specific objectives of the workshop were:

   - Share experiences from existing union information centres managed by
   local government institutes
   - Share experiences on access to information initiated by private
   entrepreneurs
   - Share lessions learned from India and E-Governmance
   - Share the Draft Pilot Project Framework on Union Information Centre

 The expected outputs from the workshops are:

   - Develop common understanding on existing situation on union information
   centres
   - Rearch consensus on piloting the proposed union information centres,
   especially on management framework and aid-harmonization.
