The UN- ESCWA launched Regional Knowledge portal project on 16-07-2009
during TLF Mashreq workshop in Amman, Jordan

(*KN4DC*) project “Knowledge* *networks through ICT access points for
disadvantaged communities”

The aim of the project is to empower poor and disadvantaged communities
through the Transformation of existing ICT access points around the world
into nodes in regional and global knowledge.

The project also, intends to increase the involvement in this process of
disadvantaged communities with focus on women and youth by encouraging and
promoting the dissemination knowledge through creating access points to
knowledge that pertains to key areas of sustainable development such as
employment, education, gender and health.

The project was in collaboration with a number of Telecentres in remote and
rural areas in its member states, (Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Sudan, Jordan and
Yemen).
