We are very closely approaching towards the much awaited Manthan Award
Conclave on December 18-19, when we all shall assemble together to
celebrate and participate in - the Manthan Award South Asia 2009,
complemented with International Conclave on "Digital Inclusion for
Development" and "IDRC India Social Science Research Award 2009" and ICT
Mela-Exhibition Connecting Masses.

 

The objective of this mailer is simply to guide you as to how to make
optimal use of your valuable presence during the two days gala event.
Let me emphasise here, the Manthan Event 2009 is for one and all
including the Manthan Awardees, Finalists, and the Nominees and their
products and services, and for those who would be visiting and attending
the event as their own. 

 

As already informed, the following is a list of events slated for the
two days programme. All you have to do is to make sure that you bring
all the publicity, distributable materials possible of your organisation
for sharing and exchange with fellow participants. As your organizers
and host provisions have been made to display ideas, products and
applications on paper or otherwise in accorded exhibition area, Notice
Boards, and Display zones.  Presenters and participants are hereby
encouraged to bring Posters, banners, leaflets, brochures etc for the
same. 

 

Equally I am delighted to inform you the diversity and richness of
presence during the event days. The Manthan 2009 platform to witness
representations from 25 Indian states, 8 countires from South Asia, at
least 50 NGOs, 100 Government projects and organisations, Telecom and IT
industry, 40 Sarpanches, 20 Weavers, Tribal communities from Rajasthan,
Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand, more than 30 Bureaucrats who are
implementing citizen centric governance projects and more than 70

ICT Mela Connecting Masses: Where one could experience the content and
ICT bazaar with special focus on masses connecting devices, content,
technologies, initiatives including governments, corporate, NGOs,
international organisations, and even individuals. Of course ICT Mela
would be dominated by the nominees of the Manthan Award 2009, and the
previous year awardees showcasing their innovations and award winning
projects and ideas. 

Manthan Award Gala 2009 & Folk Musical Evening: Where one could
experience the pure rural folk music followed by Award Gala where around
46 awards would be conferred for the year 2009 by some of the most
eminent people of the country and world.

IDRC <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns =
"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />India Social Science
Research Award 2009: This year, along with IDRC, DEF is organizing a
special award for recognizing the research initiatives in social
sciences on subjects like food security, rural innovation, climate
change, health systems and social inclusion. The ten best researches
would get their cash award on one of the evening during the Manthan
Award South Asia 2009 events.

UNESCO-IPDC Prize for Rural Communications: Announcement of DEF and
UNESCO India partnership for UNESCO-IPDC Prize for Rural Communications,
where DEF would nominate the best practices from the Manthan Award
nominations culling from categories like Community Broadcasting, e-News,
m-Content, e-Inclusion, and so on.

Launch of Digital Panchayat (DP) & e-NGO Program: DEF’s two of the most
mass impacting programs would be launched. For DP, 40 Panchayat of 100
pilot DPs from Maharashtra are coming, and for eNGO, out of 200 eNGOs,
50 would be coming from different parts of the country

Since Mobile is the faster penetrating device across the country and
region, after having reached almost 500 million, it is imperative that
we discuss the larger implication of this device, since it is oral,
multimedia, and has reach in rural areas also. This session will
showcase some of the best mobile based applications and initiatives
where the device has proved to be highly effective in serving the
masses. The session will also delve in discussing policy issues as how
various government and business services could be reached to the masses
through mobile devices in local languages and in oral medium.

SUSTAINABLE DIGITAL APPROACH FOR EDUCATION, LEARNING & HUMAN RESOURCE

The biggest challenge for the nations like India is to meaningfully
provide education to masses, make them skilled for employment to engage
them fruitfully, and use various digital media, ICT tools, and create
policies where each and every educational institution and government
machinery should take advantage of ICT infrastructure, e-application,
e-learning platforms, and growing penetration of mobile, internet, and
other digital media platforms, like radio and TV. This session will
showcase best practices on the subject and come out with some
recommendations for the Ministry of HRD.

THE PANEL DISCUSSION WILL HAVE DEDICATED DELIBERATIONS ON KEY AREAS OF
SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCH IN INDIA BASED ON SELECTED PAPER PRESENATIONS OF
IDRC INDIA SSRA 2009. THE SESSION WILL HAVE PARTICIPATION FROM THE
RESEARCH AND ACADEMIC FRATERNITY AND OTHER DELEGATES FROM DIVERSE AREAS
AS FOOD SECURITY, RURAL INNOVATION, CLIMATE CHANGE, HEALTH SYSTEMS AND
SOCIAL INCLUSION. THIS SESSION WOULD HAVE POSTER SHOWCASING AND EXCHANGE
OF RESEARCH IDEAS. THE PANEL DISCUSSION WILL CULMINATE IN THE AWARD
FELICATION OF THE WINNERS.
