1st Contest of Innovative Ideas in Information and Communication
Technologies for Human Development (2009) -OPEN-
Do you have an *idea*? Could it contribute to *improving the quality of life
and/or social cohesion in developing countries*? Is it based on the use of
*information and communication technologies*? Is it *innovative*? Do you
want to put it into practice? Do you think you can do it?
If you meet all these conditions, *THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO MAKE IT COME
TRUE!!!*
Background.
Up to five winners, among senior yr./post-graduate university students or
other young technologists from Africa and Latin America, will be selected to
carry out work in CTIC facilities in Spain. Their proposals will have shown
significant potential for a specific application of ICT for economic growth
and other developmental areas (eg. health, disaster management, environment,
gender equity, education, etc.) in their communities and countries of
origin.
The CTIC Foundation will support the fellows in their reseach and
development work for a period of 12 months, hosting them at the
cReaTic-Laboratory for Creativity and Technological Research (
www.creaticlab.org <http://www.creaticlab.org>), under the supervision of
CTIC Foundation’s researchers. They will also be aided in completing and
implementing their work in their countries, so that their R&D work reverts
back to benefit of communities throughout Africa and Latin America.
The deadline for submitting proposals is on 30th September. Participants can
apply to the contest in Spanish or English.
The CTIC Foundation created in 2006 the ‘1 at +You=1€ project (
http://www.1arroba1euro.org)’ <

and hosts the Cooperation 2.0 conferences on ICT and Innovation for
Development (link). Starting this year, it has taken this new approach for
the recipients of the 1 at +You grants. The CTIC Foundation strongly believes
that the improvement of the quality of life in developing countries should
be led by the talent and energy of their own people.
The 1 at +You=1€ project involves the contributions of 40 public and private
organizations, and functions as a small but growing digital solidarity fund
enabled via a public-private partnership. It is open to the contributions of
companies, public administrations and social organizations interested in
mitigating the digital divide and creating digital opportunities for
development. Last year’s grants went to projects in Nicaragua, Guatemala,
Colombia, Mali and Morocco.
