[UgaBYTES] Pakistan to start 50 telecentres for farmers

>From Islambad: The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MinFA) would establish tele-centres for farmers in rural areas of the country to provide modern facilities of communication and to enhance agri-sector performance. The MinFA and Intel Microsoft Company agreed to launch information facilities for farmers at tele-centres, established in rural areas by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. Initially 50 Tele-centres would be established in rural areas all over the country.
The decision to this effect was taken during a meeting between Minister for Food and Agriculture, Nazar Muhammad Gondal and country head Intel (Microsoft Company) Ashar H.Zaidi. Speaking on the occasion, the federal minister said that present age was age of information, adding that the performance of agriculture could be enhanced by using information technology in a simple way as proposed by Intel. He said that agriculture sector was the top priority of the government and it would make all out efforts to make the sector competitive and profitable.
The Minister assured all kind of support to Intel for this venture. On the occasion, Zaidi briefed the Minister about Intel operations and said that the CDs meant for farmers education should be prepared in regional languages to guide the farmers towards using of information technology in agriculture.
