Seminar on Journalism education and profession held at Rajshahi University
Rajshahi, 08 August 2009:
The Journalism Alumni Forum of Rajshahi University (JAFRU), an association of former students of Mass Communication and Journalism department organized the seminar at RU senate vobon on Saturday.
Rajshahi University (RU) Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr.M. Abdus Sobhan inaugurated the programme as chief guest while Pro-VC Prof. Dr.M. Nurullah and Dean of Social Science Faculty Prof.M Sadekul Islam were present as the special guests .The inauguration programme was chaired by department chairman Prof. Moshihur Rahman .President of JAFRU M Sazzad Hossain presented welcome speech on the session .
Former department chairman Prof. Dulal Chandra Biswas presented a keynote paper titled Writing the mind of the curricula: Re-visioning Mass Communication and Journalism Education in Bangladesh". Former student and the reporter of The Daily Star Md. Mahamudul Haque presented a keynote paper on Job Market for Communication and Journalism Graduates in Bangladesh: Problems and Prospects. There also held an open discussion programme after then keynote paper presentations .The present students and about one hundred former students of the department attended on the seminar.
Speakers on their speech said that, though the journalism discipline has not introduced long days ago in education sector of Bangladesh, the discipline has established as attractive and challenging career building arena. Speakers also urged the authority to introduce more improved syllabus to gain internationally recognized in the journalism education sector of Bangladesh.
The programme was supported by Centre for Communication and Development (CCD Bangladesh) and Watchdog Bangladesh.
Community Radio Demanded for the Indigenous People

Community radio can play significant role for the socio-economic development and preservation of the language and culture of the indigenous people. Therefore, establishment of a separate community radio for the indigenous people has been demanded.
Member of Parliament from Rajshahi Fazle Hossain Badsha demanded this point while speaking as Chief Guest in the closing ceremony of the first round of the long term Radio Journalism Training Course held in Rajshahi on Sunday. This long term radio journalism training course arranged with the assistance of World Association for Christian Communication.
Mass communication oriented knowledge centre CCD organized this program. In his speech, Fazle Hossain Badsha called upon the government to form a separate land commission to preserve the housing and agro-land of the indigenous people from the grasp of the land grabbers. Later he distributed certificates among the female participants of the long-term radio journalism training course.
Presided by CCD Chairman and noted journalist S M A Qader, the program was addressed as special guests by Chairperson of Association for Development Agencies of Bangladesh (ADAB) Rajshahi Chapter Proshanto Saha, General Secretary of National Indigenous Council Robindronath Soren and Chairman of Mass Communication and Journalism Department of Rajshahi University Moshihur Rahman. CCD Director and media personality G M Mourtoza conducted the program held at Haji Muntazul Hoque Auditorium at Monafer Morh in the city.
Notably, a total of 37 delegates from Saontal, Urao, Mahato, Malo, Munda, Dolit, Hajong, Garo and Chakma indigenous communities are taking part in the radio journalism training course. Professor of Mass Communication and Journalism Department of Rajshahi University Dulal Chandra Biswas, Moshihur Rahman, Shatil Shiraj and media personality G M Mourtoza conducted the sessions in the first round of the training course titled as Training on Basic Radio Journalism.
