Subject: [OSM-talk] Africa Road data import
To: talk at openstreetmap.org
Hello,
I wrote a little while back that we would be working on some data
imports for Africa. In short, we received permission from 2 different
UN data repo's to contribute their base road, river, rail, and admin
boundary data to OSM. So far, we have cleaned and imported 6
countries worth of road layers. Next up is to do some final QA, once
we can see the data in Potlach, then onto the other layers for each of
the 6 countries. And there are still 5 more countries available to us
to work on.
I wrote a blog-post about the progess thus far here: http://is.gd/
tTb4 All seemed to go well with the import under the new API, though
we had a bit of trouble with DRC (it's a huge file).
We've received several emails from folks wanting to help us in this
process. Now that we (think) we've got our feet under us, we hope to
work with them as we process the remaining data.
Cheers,
Robert Soden
