[UgaBYTES] telecentre.org and IGNOU launches Diploma Course on Telecentre Management

I am an employee of IGNOU, and I have contributed short articles for telecentre.org. I am delighted to hear about this programme.Also the telecentre movement for community development has captured my imagination, and I want to put such precept to practice!

Dear Members,

We are happy to share that telecentre.org through the Indira Gandhi National
Open University (IGNOU) launched a Six Month Diploma Course for Knowledge Centre
Managers, titled Telecentre/Village Knowledge Centre Management" to mark
the celebration of IGNOU's Foundation Day in the presence of celebrated
agricultural scientist and Rajya Sabha member Professor M S Swaminathan and
Economist Prof Abid Hussain.

"Learning process is continual and should be extended to all, including
youths in the grassroots" stated by IGNOU's Vice Chancellor, Prof V N
Rajasekharan Pillai.

Dr. M.C Nair, Director I/C, Centre for Extension Education said, "This
course will benefit in boosting professionalism of the telecentre managers in
their day-to-day functional needs".

Dr Basheerhamad Shadrach, Senior Programme Officer, telecentre.org, echoed
Professor M.S Swaminathan's vision to establish one hundred thousand village
knowledge centers and village resource centers in India to spread knowledge in
two-ways i.e. village resource centers catering to village knowledge centres,
through mobile phones, community radio and other systems and new modes and from
rural community to the outside community.

Dr Shadrach also thanked IGNOU for the opportunity to launch this diploma
course to enable knowledge centre managers to enhance their skills and grow into
real change agents and rural core competent's of India.

Admissions to this diploma course would commence from January 2009, with the
objective to prepare the grassroot telecentre and village knowledge workers in
their ability, to offer the community an opportunity to connect to the knowledge
world.
