*Stop the Food Crisis* *Act Now against Poverty and Inequality!*

The world is facing a global food crisis. Millions of people, especially
women, are unable to feed their families due to the rise in the cost of
staple foods such as rice, maize and corn.

Already over 800 million people suffer from hunger and with prices doubling
in the last two years and skyrocketing in the last few months, it is
estimated this crisis will push 100 million more people into poverty.

On June 3-5, members of the UN High Level Task Force on the food crisis,
along with Heads of State and representatives from the World Bank and IMF
will meet at the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) in Rome. The Global
Call to Action Against Poverty, along with many other civil society groups
is demanding these leaders TAKE ACTION NOW!

Join hundreds of thousands of people around the world and sign the
petition<http://www.whiteband.org/Action/take-action/take-action-stop-the-food-crisis/?utm_source=email080527>calling
on world leaders to take immediate action to stop the food crisis
by:

   1. mobilizing emergency funding to prevent starvation
   2. removing perverse incentives to turn food into biofuels
   3. ending market speculation that artificially increases food prices
   4. tackling the underlying causes by ending harmful trade policies and
investing in sustainable small-scale agricultural production in developing
   nations
   5. investing in programs that empower women and girls to stop child
   labour and domestic violence
   6. honouring their commitments to meet and exceed the Millennium
   Development Goals (MDGs)

ACT NOW TO END POVERTY AND
INEQUALITY!<http://www.whiteband.org/Action/take-action/take-action-stop-the-food-crisis/?utm_source=email080527>
