Seminar on Information Technologies Starts Monday

The National Institute of Artistic Training (INFA) will hold as from this
Monday, in Luanda, a seminar on new information technologies, at the
service of artistic teaching, ANGOP has learnt.
The five-day meeting aims at promoting and stimulating the use of new
information technologies by teachers and people that work in artistic
teaching.
During the gathering it will be debated the modules and contents linked to
the demonstration of equipment, video and slides projection, data show, as
well as other matters relating to information technologies.

Microsoft, Comtel Sign Sh2 Billion Pact

MICROSOFT and a local firm, Comtel Integrators Africa, have signed a sh2b
agreement to develop localised software and provide related services.
"We are investing sh2b in this project that will produce software for the
whole of sub-Saharan Africa and the medium information technology (IT)
market in the region," Microsoft's director for communications, John
Creed, said.

China Confirms Assistance to Sierratel

The government of the People's Republic of China has confirmed assistance
to Sierra Leone-owned telecommunication company, Sierratel, with the
signing of an inter-governmental agreement that made available a
concessional loan to support a Code Divisional Multiple Access (CDMA)
project for Sierratel.
According to Zhao Zhongqiu, the Economic and Commercial Counsellor at the
Chinese Embassy in Freetown, the venture which is code named Sierra Leone
Rural and Sub-urban Telecommunication CDMA Network Project is designed to
provide the people of Sierra Leone with an improved and convenient
telecommunication system.

Chinese Firm to Build Computer Plant

Chinese-based Information Technology Company, Spur Group is to establish a
multi-million dollar manufacturing plant to produce computing hard wares
and soft wares in Nigeria.
The investment drive which is being facilitated by the Federal Ministry of
Science and Technology and the Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission
would lead to the production of cheaper and affordable computers in the
country.
The General Manager of the firm, Mr. Yang Ming, disclosed this in Abuja
recently at the business meeting with NIPC officials and NITDA
Director-General, Prof. Cleopas Angaye.

GTZ Donates IT Equipment to Prosecutor General's Office

The German Technical Corporation (GTZ) has donated Information Technology
equipment worth Frw50 million to the office of the Prosecutor General in
Kimihurura. The equipment donated included 30 laptops, four printers, one
projector, and accessories.
"We have had a good, long-lasting relationship with the office of the
Prosecutor General. We started with building up a database for the Gacaca
programme at its inception, but we have since widened our operations with
the office and are looking forward to giving more support," said Dr.
Mathias Muhlhans, the GTZ principal advisor on justice and good governance
programme.
Present at the handing-over ceremony were the Deputy Prosecutor General,
Alphonse Hitiyaremye, and the Secretary General in the office of the
Prosecutor General, Jean Damascene Habimana.
