Hello Bob,Joseph en all telecentre members.
Following the request from Bob i think Joseph is giving out a nice idea but still i want to supplement on what Joseph talked about. For example talk of the transmission system if your radio is located in the hilly areas like us here in Uganda Kabale district you will need at least 500 watts transmitter if not that you will transmitting with poor signals hence some people will not be getting your services and you can imagine people with in a radius of 5kms not receiving you its a total disappointment. and its like with wantokent they don't have transmitters exceeding 100 any way u can as well try their web site and see.
next thing you need to involve the community as well so that you can get a away of making proposals to different funders like MICROSOFT, IDRC and others to mention but a few . please in any case you need any assistance don't hesitate to contact me.

As you have perhaps noted, Mr. Bob of KIFAD would like to start a community radio station. This is a good project idea. As you perhaps know, I have just completed installation of my community radio station in Karagwe, NW Tanzania. I have a lot of uptodate information about formation of community radio stations from the technical, financvial, management to the legislative points of view. I will be responding to Mr. Bob shortly.

I would have also wish to call on all those persons/ telecentres that wish to incorporate radio into their work to let me know. At least I know suppliers who can in addition to seling equipment, provide follow-up tyechnical support as well. I would like to recommend WANTOK (www.wantokent.com) in CANADA for the briefcase type of Radios, small and ideal for small community radio stations. In addition I am trying to mobilise collective effort for what is called OPEN FM. As you know, it is possible to build a radio station with parts which are available here in the region. remember importation of complete radio stations is very expensive and subject to legislative restrictions..

If you want to learn more about Open FM, please contact me. Otherwsie, I will ask Mr. Robbin from wantok to send you the details on the cost of the available equipment. These are however available on their website.

So colleagues, to BOB and other friends, I welcome this idea and I would like to help where I possibly can.

 regards,
