Dear All,

My country Kenya is going through a serious transition phase which has
sparked ethnic tension (itself a serious recipe for civil strife) and calls
for prayers from those inclined to prayer.

 

While there is an election (stolen or otherwise) which many see as the cause
of whatever is happening, there is more on the economic front that makes
politicians seek to control the national resources and hence invokes
emotions  when expectations run against actual outcomes. There is need to
have a channel for sharing information and an institutional paradigm that
promotes empowerment to local people in their natural habitat so that
opportunities are created and exploited at that level. This in my humble and
frustrated disposition may be the solution to all that is happening.

 

In this regard, it would be beneficial if telecentres which are owned and
controlled by local people were to be the source of information and a point
of business interaction by different communities who are able to exploit
their potential through the value chain that the telecentre presents. 

 

This may involve enormous capacity building and the consequent warehousing
of products, which people in different locations have in excess, so that the
same can be traded through the telecentre infrastructure.

 

Should this be provided, there would be opportunities for the youths whose
lack of opportunities is a fueling factor to the ethnic tensions which need
productive engagement to be contained once and for all.

 

I am calling on all people of good will to support our efforts to promote
such an institutional dispensation.
