*GDCO arrived the 12**th** of February 2008 in Ethiopia to attend the
Novatech 2008 ICT market place organized by NEPAD (new partnership for
Africa development). The conference was held at the united nation economy
commission of Africa centre (UN-ECA) between 13**th** -15**th** February
attended by more than 400 participants and more than 30 papers were
presented. ICT business was discussed widely between East Africa, Indian
Ocean and the big partners (the European community). Many topics were
discussed including training, capacity building, marketing, mobiles
technology, connectivity and networking and new marketing potential for ICT
development. GDCO chairman looks in between to fit GDCO and the Telecentre
movement on which he raised many questions throughout the conference talking
about the importance of this social enterprise in the development of ICT. He
mentioned the role of Telecentres in training and capacity building for a
cost price and through these projects it opened a big market for the ICT
equipments so he asked the European investment bank (EIB), the German banks
and the financial institutions if there is a place for these Telecentres. He
mentioned that, unless these financial institutions help the African
communities through Telecentres, the ICT will not be part of the African
nations culture or priority Which will leads to less market opportunities
for their products. GDCO mentioned that **ICT is very essential for
experience and knowledge transfer also it is essential for training and
capacity building. For training to be effective many questions should be
answered, who want to train? Why? When and where?. Also he raised the
disabled training and he asked the conference organizers and partners to pay
attention to this humanitarian issue GDCO mentioned that connectivity is the
most challenge facing Telecentres so special treatments should be taken to
improve the l**ow cost and the **quality **of connectivity. **For the ICT to
be part of the African nation culture more Telecentres should be established
to provide very low cost of training. Also after training tools should be
available e.g. practising training centres (because most of the people are
very poor and they can not Afford to buy computers) and the prices of the
computer should be very low and there should be financial support (grant )
for the Telecentres (social enterprise) and long term loans for the
commercial enterprise.*
