First of all, congratulations to you, Sulah and the team there, so also the
leaders of African telecentre movement on this important step. I am hopeful
that the meeting will result in stronger networks in Africa as witnessed in
Asia and Latin America. I am glad to note that among other things there
will be a discussion around the establishment of the telecentre academy in
Africa. As the point person within telecentre.org, not only I am glad to
note this important step, but will endeavor to offer more information should

Subject: [UgaBYTES] Network Leaders exchange at UgaBYTES starts today
Hullo Friends,
As you read this, five East Africa Network Leaders are in Kampala, Uganda
for the first network leaders' staff exchange.
Tanzania Telecentre Network's Felician Ncheye, Kenya Network of telecentres'
Damas Ogwe, and Burundi's Jean Paul Nkurunziza and one participant from
Rwanda Telecentre Network arrived in Kampala yesterday and will be
converging at the UgaBYTES offices for the meeting.
The five day interactive knowledge sharing discussion will be held at the
UgaBYTES head office in Kampala, Uganda.
The network leaders will be sharing ideas on different issues pertinent to
the East Africa telecentre movement including issues related to National
Network Status including Network Structure, operational management,
registration status, telecentre inclusion level and strategy and financial
management. This will form the bigger part of the discussion on day one.
Later in the day, the network leaders are expected to discuss strategies of
building a strong regional telecentre eco system. They will look at the
current scenario, what needs to be harmonized and what needs o be done at
national, regional and international level to ensure proper harmonization.
During the course of the next four days, other issues expected to be
discussed include;
Discussion on the online community engagement, website and mailing list
management, the Bytes for Development award, the Telecentre Academy and the
future of the regional staff exchange program for network leaders and
telecentre staff. UgaBYTES social enterprise team will lead a discussion on
social enterprise including building business concept ideas, business
opportunity benchmarks, the necessary finance management system for the
social enterprise among others.
The UgaBYTES documentation team will keep you posted on the recommendations
and resolutions from each of the areas of discussion.
A wiki has been put in place for the documentation of the process.
Feel free to make any suggestions on the areas listed for discussion over
the course of the next four days.
