            8TH SEPTEMBER 2008, INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY CELEBRATIONS  
  
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the United Nations General Assembly declared 8th September as the International Literacy Day in 1967. 
  
The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD) has the mandate to coordinate the celebrations in Uganda and is chairing the National Organising Committee (NOC). 
  
This year, national celebrations will be held in Nakaseke District at Nakaseke Multi Media Tele-centre Grounds on Monday 8th September 2008. 
  
Theme: Literacy; a key to good health and wellbeing  
  
Activities: 
A National literacy week from 1st to 7th September 2008.  
Partners are encouraged to undertake activities related to the theme.
  
A one day symposium on the theme is slated on Thursday 4th September (venue and details to be finalized). 
  
Literacy exhibition will take place at the venue on 8th September 2008 
Newspaper supplement in The Daily Monitor and The New vision
