[UgaBYTES] Bytes for Development Award competitions on

Following its inauguration in June 2008 at the 5th EATLF in Sudan, the Bytes
for Development Award (B4DAward) has attracted telecentre practitioners from
the East, Central and Southern Africa.
The award is managed by UgaBYTES in partnership with telecentre.org and East
African Telecentre National Networks including KenTel, TTN, BCTN, and RTN.
It aims to stimulate and strengthen online telecentre community to
progressively improve the telecentre body of knowledge in Africa.
The award targets the: 1. Best blogger. 2. Most outstanding story. 3. Best
trainer.
In June, UgaBYTES registered 7 entries from Dr. Akram Ahmed, Sudan, Esther
Nasikye, Uganda, Kiringai Kamau, Kenya, Esther Kiwazi Nassanga-Gabul'Atudde,
Uganda, Jean Paul Nkurunziza, and Dean Mulozi, Zambia.
Last month, July, there were 12 entries from Felician Ncheye, Tanzania, Jean
Paul Nkurunziza, Burundi, Esther Nasikye, Uganda, Geoffrey Namukoye, Uganda,
and Edward Lugalama, Uganda.

The winners will receive;*
1. A laptop for each of the winners.
2. A plaque that has logos of all networks and institutions involved
3. A package of the most recent telecentre publications.
4. The jury will look into the possibility of providing wireless
equipment along with a laptop in future
5. Special mention for a year during EATLF and global events organized by
partners and in all the telecentre publications

Eligibility*
• The award targets telecentre practitioners from the East, Central and
Southern Africa.
• Members of the jury, network staff, and development partners are
excluded from the award.
• Past winners are still eligible for the award.
• Only articles shared on telecentre.org website will be considered for
the award. However, the articles will automatically be linked to UgaBYTES,
KenTel, TTN, BCTN, and RTN websites through RSS Feeds.
*The jury*
This consists of Content managers at National and regional level that
review entries for the award on a monthly basis.

June 2008 to June 2009

#8: BOOK BOX! HOW IT WORKS @ UDS

The book box project is an outreach-innovation that UDS-Telecentre borrowed
from Nakaseke Telecentre in 2005. Considering the fact that UDS-TC is rural
based with few people able to travel long distances to use information
materials at the centre, UDS thought it wise to "take the Telecentre to the
community"! Target beneficiaries are community schools.
