Dear Collegues,
I was once in a workshop of the private sector and they said something to me that made me change how I viewd our telecentre.
They said, the problem with us telecentres we focus 80% if not 100% to donors and the private sector for help and when nothing comes through,we start the blame game.
I had to make our telecentre get a twist and there after intergrated Social Entrepreneurship.
I personally find Ugabytes very informative and gives me awesome networking support and so much more.
If you find donors, private sector not comming to your aid, please try social entrepreneurship you will be surprised what you will achieve.

Dear Colleagues
Mark Farahani's comment was pretty blunt. I think it is relatively
easy to understand what he is saying. As I interpret it, Mark's view
is that the "establishment", whatever that is ... the powers that be
... are not getting to grips with helping with the issues that are
critical to the rural telecentre.
What are the issues that impact the rural telecentre, and what are the
most critical:
.... lack of (expense of) electricity
.... lack of (expense of) Internet connectivity
.... lack of (expense of) experienced staff
.... lack of demand for telecentre services / lack of cash to pay for
the services
.... inability of telecentre to deliver what are priority needs for
the community
.... too much expectation of free service from powerful people
.... donors are ignoring the rural telecentres
.... many others, I am sure.
I have attempted a bit of a list ... but the aim should be for Mark
and the others with rural telecentre questions to shout out the issues
they see, and as a community we should see how best to respond.
Please note this list is NOT the result of a survey ... it represents
2 minutes of thinking through what might be issues (maybe 3 minutes).
I am sure many of you can do a better list than this.
And then we have to get on to thinking through solutions. Excessive
focus on the problems is merely intersting, not useful.
Sincerely
Peter
