For`FM transmission, you definitely need a transmitter. The coverage much depends on the power of your tx. 2 Km is such a short distance and any tx in the range 1-3 Wats can do that. Here you need not think of software. But the important things to care abot is legislation. At FADECO I have a DIY Tx that you are invited to come and see. And then I can help you build one.
Like Mr. Meddie has indicated, you need, there are a number of software packages - Free - that you can use for editing and scheduling audio files in the studio.
